Misc 3: Aerial Video Part 2

Once you gain confidence in your RC aircraft flying abilities, you'll probably want to venture out with your quadcopter for more scenic video than your backyard and the roof of your house.  But as I always recommend, please consider continuing flying the cheaper options over expensive higher-end quadcopters such as DJI Phantom or even AR Parrot.

With outdoor flight, there is greatly increased risk of loss of the quadcopter, due to terrain, trees etc...  The low-cost of some "toy" video quadcopters make them ideal for these riskier flights.  Again, would you like to risk a $68, $93, or a $1000 quadcopter in these first flights in the outdoors? Once you're comfortable flying over rough terrain, and if you really need higher quality, then consider the higher-end models (again, if you're still interested).

And here are some sample videos taken with these "toys". Please watch full-screen by clicking the full-screen bracket button in the lower right corner of the video.

  1. How do you reduce the jello in your videos? Any special tricks or advice? I get tons of jello, and I am looking for improvement

    1. How are you attaching the camera? There can't be any slack or wiggle or the natural vibrations from the props will amplify vibrations causing the jello. The way I attach mine is very simple, but not at all elegant :) But it works. A lot of scotch tape holds it firmly in place.

    2. Oops, forgot to mention that you'll need this. And will also need this. If the second link no longer works, just search eBay for "RP-SMA female nut bulkhead".

  3. I just bougth my X6 and i have a gopro hero3+ black, but iam afraid to mount it on the x6, coz the camera is a LOT EXPENSIVE then the x6, i'm afraind that falls and crash my gopro. i can use with the waterprof to protect but it will get much more heavy and the maybe burns the motors.

Being rasonable is better burn the motors than the gopro right?

    1. If you are new to quads, of course it wouldn't be a good idea to risk your expensive GoPro. At least not until you gain experience and confidence in flying your quad. But that doesn't mean that you'll have to wait to try aerial video. There are much more inexpensive cameras that you can fly with your quad as you're gaining experience. They're also much lighter than the GoPro and less likely to damage your motors:Here are some examples.
